Dual Language at B.H. Macon Elementary
Dallas ISD is creating global citizens everyday by providing our students with the opportunity to learn two languages. English speaking students can learn Spanish, all the while, our Spanish speaking students will learn English within the “Two-Way Dual Language Program.” In this program, students will learn to read, write, and think in both languages, helping students to:
- Become bi-literate
- Become bilingual
- Propel them into their roles as global citizens
Non-Spanish speaking students who opt into the Two-Way Dual Langauge program will enter an Immersion program beginning in Pre-K or Kindergarten where their instruction will be 80% Spanish (Reading/Language Arts, Social Studies & Science) and 20% English (Math) daily. Once they enter 2nd Grade and beyond, students will participate in a 50/50 model where instruction will be 50% Spanish (Reading/Language Art, Social Studies & Science) and 50% English (Reading/Langauge Arts/Math). The program will grow each year until the Two-Way Dual Language Program is in all grade levels from PK-5th grade.
